Rockcraft: The first outdoor Climbing training trip!
We will be heading to our local stomping crag (Pukerua Bay) where practice your belay and climbing skills outdoors! We will teach you how to stay safe while climbing outside, how to safely belay someone else. If you've never climbed before this is the perfect introductory trip!
We are running a Hangdog sesh this Wednesday for you all to have an opportunity to belay in a controled enviroment. If you know everything there is to know about climbing, this is the perfect trip to get to know some other keen climbers at VUW!
We're going to get there by carpooling so bring your cars please! If we don't have enough cars for climbers, we will be organise groups to the train station and we will meet you in Pukarua Bay. (I'll be sending out emails on friday with information about groups and transport.)
Our climbing leaders are:
Béatrice / Xanthe / Rowan / Patrick / Jess
Here's the Sunday Plan:
- Meet at Hunter Carpark at 9:00am, hopefully leaving by 9:30. Allowing time for everyone to arrive and sort out transport; If there aren't enough cars we will be running the a group down to the trainline from CBD station to Pukarua Bay (I will be sending an email out on saturday with the car groups and basic information; this is where those without a car spot will be taking the train, so bring your cars if you can!)
- Arrive at the bay and walk to the crag. Enjoy the day filled with climbing and fun!
- Returning to Wellington CBD // Hunter Carpark around 4/5pm (Or earlier if a discussed with your driver).
We will sort out gear to supply you with on location, but if you have your own equiptment (Harness/Shoes/etc.) feel free to bring it along!
What you'll need to bring:
- Water
- Lunch // Snacks
- Sneakers: Active shoes will do the job nicely, The gear shed has limited climbing shoes so they will disappear fast (Will be distributed on the day).
- Active wear: Clothing you can comfortably move around in//boulder in.
- Extra layers incase the wind picks up, coastal breezes ya' know?
The $5 cost goes towards the driver's petrol, so if you're one of the amazing individuals driving us out there, don't worry you will get reimbursed!
