Organiser: Jack Huygens

FMC (federated mountain club) are running a "Love our Huts and Tracks" campaign:

We're looking for clubs and keen people to connect their backcountry plans this spring with visiting some of our 951 public huts. Together we hope to visit them all so we can give them a quick spring clean, and also conduct a simple audit of their current state and from looking at the hut book, see how they are making a difference in terms of keeping people safe, conservation projects and types of recreation.

We'll of course take part in this too!
My plan is to run a 4-day medium/hard loop through one of the more spectacular sections of the Tararuas:

Otaki Forks -> Waitewaewae  -> Andersons memorial hut  -> Aokaparangi -> Maungahuka  -> Penn creek -> Otaki Forks

Some of these huts have already been claimed, so the only ones we will be giving a spring clean to are Andersons memorial hut & Maungahuka hut.

The highlight of the trip is the infamous Tararua Peaks and steel ladder!
(so suffice to say, this trip requires a head for heights)

This is a medium-hard trip! Great fitness is required. These will be long 8-10hr days on rough terrain, especially the Tararua Peaks section!

Some of the huts on this trip only fit 6 people, but if you can bring a tent then we can extend that number to 10 if we get a second car.
