Monday, 3 March 2025 at 10:00 AM to Monday, 3 March 2025 at 3:00 PM

Organiser: Liam Baldwin Jankiewicz

No longer an conservation trip, because I emailed a ranger on the mainland who works with Matiu and there is no permanent ranger on the island yet, so it'll still be a while until we can do volunteer work with DOC (about a few months sadly). I'm still gonna do the trip in March, but we won't be collaborating with DOC to do conservation work.

Matiu/Somes Island has been closed to the public for almost a year because they were building a new wharf, so we'll be able to check out the new upgrade and explore the island for the whole day! Come along if this interests you (and not busy on the day).

♦The Plan♦

  • Meet at Queen's Warf at 11:00 am to wait and catch the 12:00 pm ferry (or you can meet us on Matiu/Somes Island if you are catching a ferry from Day's Bay, but please text or email me if you do)
  • Explore the island until around 4:00 pm
  • Head back to Welly!

Please bring lunch and snacks so you don't go hungry!

♦How to Book ♦ (You have to book the ferry yourself, sorry)

  • Access this link: https://eastbywest.co.nz/matiusomes.
  • Click on the image below (or the other image if leaving from Day's Bay) and pick March 3rd 2025 and choose 12:00 PM (12:30 PM if from Day's Bay) to access the ferry. It is $40 to book the ferry and $6 for a visitor fee. However, you can present a valid tertiary id onboard for a discounted fare.
  • Please email me to confirm you have booked the ferry.
