Finally some Ruahine tops

Annoyed that you're stuck inside with the current weather in Wellington? I have some bad news for you, looks like we have another storm in a weeks time. But I have some good news, there is a window of good weather from about Monday to Thursday! I have done a fair bit of Ruahine tramping now but for some reason I have always been unlucky and always had terrible weather on the tops. My hope is this will be the tramp that I get some Ruahine views!

I have a couple routes in mind. First is one that I planned but didn't do last year which gets over to the hard-to-access western Ruahines by starting from the east:

This would be MH 8-10hr days (though could be less if we included Thursday) which potential detour to Purity hut as well (ignore the text at the bottom this is an old image)

Another is the classic Sawtooth Ridge loop:

This is M difficulty more like 6-8hr days:

My preference is for the first one but I would be fine with the easier second option if that's what people prefer.

We'll take mine or Jack's car and we'll decide on food at the supermark on the way
