Waiorongomai Hut Overnighter

Come along on a super easy overnighter to Waiorongomai Hut in the Remutaka Forest Park! This trip is perfect for beginners or anyone who is keen for a night in the bush without a long walk to get there. The roadend is just over an hour drive away from Welly, near lake Wairarapa on the eastern side of the Remutakas. It's approx a 2hr walk to the hut from the roadend. There are lots of small river crossings, but no major elevation. Because we'll have all day to do this walk, it would be fine to go really slowly and take lots of breaks along the way. The hut is recently renovated with 4 bunks, but sits in a clearing, so we could easily fit loads more in tents. We will need some cars to get there, so if you have a car and are able to drive people, please sign up!!

There's also a couple of good canyons nearby, so if you're keen to come along and turn this into a canoying mish that would be epic!

Monday: Meet at Hunter Carpark at 11am. Drive out to Wairongomai and start walking by 1pm. Arrive at the hut sometime before dark, cook dinner and setup tents. 

Tuesday: Leave approx 10am, walk back to the cars. Drive back to Welly for early afternoon.
