Friday, 26 September 2025 at 9:30 am to Sunday, 28 September 2025 at 5:00 pm

Organisers: Kate Morris, Max Honiss

A three-day adventure to learn some intermediate bushcraft skills.

Not suitable for beginners, sorry. You'll need to have some tramping experience, be able to comfortably walk for a full day with a pack, and have your own sleeping bag, mat, and warm and waterproof gear. A good attitude is also necessary - comfort is not the goal of this trip!

Friday:

Meet at the Hunter carpark at 9:30am. We'll drive to the Waiohine carpark and tramp to the flats near Tutuwai, via Cone Hut. We'll set up the shelters and cook nachos for dinner.

Saturday:

Breakfast, then split into two groups - one will stay at camp and learn knots, first aid, and reading topo maps, and the other group will go adventuring and learn some navigation, bush bashing, and river crossing. Swap activities after morning tea. After lunch, we'll build emergency shelters, light fires, and cook some bush food as a whole group. Pasta for dinner. You can sleep in your emergency shelter if you want!

Sunday:

Breakfast, pack up, then walk out.

You will need:

  • Basic and overnight gear, but especially...
  • A warm sleeping bag and sleeping mat
  • Warm clothes - it'll be chilly!
  • Waterproof clothes, it might rain
  • Head torch
  • Your own breakfast x2, lunch x2, and snacks

$30.00
