Want to learn to lead climb at Hangdog!?!?!
If you want to further your climbing and learn some new skills, sign up to take part in these lead training sessions!
What is lead climbing?
(According to Wikipedia) Lead climbing is where the 'lead climber' clips their climbing rope to the climbing protection as they ascend a pitch of the climbing route. As opposed to top roping, where the rope is above you the entire time.
It is my favourite part of climbing and is a really important skill to know if you want to go outdoors.
How will it run?
- We are planning to have the first introductory session at Hangdog at 4 pm on the 23rd of July (directly before the climbing night, so you can stay and climb after the 1-hour intro- will still need to pay the entry fee if you do that btw).
- The following week there will be an opportunity for two 3-hour sessions, which will be much more hands-on and in smaller groups of 4. These will be spread across the week, and we will sort you into groups depending on your availability.
- After completing this, if you want, you can sit a 45-minute test (which is $10) and get your lead license at Hangdog, which means you can lead climb there anytime (with a partner who also has a lead license or is getting their lead license)
If you are already an experienced lead climber and just want your license at Hangdog, then you can just sit the final test. To make this happen, you can arrange a time that suits you and the lead instructor by emailing Hangdog (info@hangdog.co.nz).
How much will it cost?
It will be $50 for the intro session and 2x 3 hour lead lessons.
This is subsidised heavily by the club (for context, usually it is $80 an hour) and so depending on numbers, we may have to be selective on who takes part.
