Organiser: Connor Sheppard

This trip is a four day traverse of the Tararua Ranges, starting from Waiohine Gorge Road end and ending at Otaki Forks

And we will clean some of the huts along the way :) - one per night

Please sign up if you are interested as dates have not been set - it will be mid to late December :)

  • (Dates are flexible because of weather and availability considerations)
  • Please have confident fitness for a four-day tramp if you would like to sign up!

  • Trip may be split into pieces (if weather is too bad to go over the peaks), as the huts do need to be cleaned!

  • I’ll arrange with people who sign up to work out dates and other logistics (food and transport) :)

First day we will hike to Neil Forks Hut - cleaning the hut for Love Our Huts

Could go via cone saddle or via Sayer and Totara Flats depending on time

Second day we will walk to Aokaparangi Hut via Maungahuka Hut, we will also clean Aokaparangi Hut

  • 5-6 hours of walking

  • Swim at Maungahuka? (‘lake’ in prior slide)

  • Ascents and descents

  • Walking along ridge line (more exposed to wind)

Third day we will walk to Anderson Memorial Hut - clean Anderson Memorial

  • Shortest day of walking! (2 hours)

  • This gives us more time to clean Aokaparangi

during the day, then head over in the afternoon

Perhaps if doing well timewise, stay in Waitewaewae that

night?

Final day we will walk down to the Te Araroa Trail via Waitewaewae Hut, finishing at Otaki Forks :)

Long day (9 hours)
