Hot Springs Trip: Splish Splash

Come along on an easy tramp to some hot pools! This is a beginner friendly trip, so even if you've never tramped before, feel free to sign up! 

Gear to bring:

❏     Headtorch + spare batteries

❏     Boots + socks

❏     Shorts + teeshirt not cotton

❏     Fleece/wool jumper not cotton (bring warm clothes, itll be cold)

❏     Thermal top and bottom

❏     Warm hat, gloves and neck gaiter

❏     Sunhat + sunscreen

❏     1L+ water bottle

❏     Map + compass**

❏     Personal first aid kit

❏     Toilet paper + hand sanitizer

❏     Sleeping bag

❏     Sleeping mat*

❏     Hut clothes optional

❏     Toothbrush + toiletries

❏     Bowl, mug and cutlery

❏     Billy*

❏     Cooker* + lighter/matches

Also bring togs and a quick dry towel

Food: 

For this trip we are doing a shared dinner on saturday night, itll be pasta and then marshmallows to roast over a fire. The pasta will be vegetarian but feel free to bring some of you own toppings. As for breakfasts and lunchs, make sure to pack your own.

So that will be 2x lunches, 2x breakfasts, 1 dinner for friday night (or get takeaways on the drive up). Also feel free to bring booze, just don't get too drunk.

Friday: Leave Wellington by mid-morning and make the 5hr trek up to Hawke's Bay. We'll arrive at the Mangatutu campsite by dark, in time to set up the tents, cook some dinner and jump into the hot pools around sunset. There's no walking on this day!

Saturday: Walk 2-3 hours to Te Puia Hut in the morning. Drop our bags, eat some lunch, and then walk another 45min to the Mangatainoka hot pools where we can hang out for the afternoon and evening. Alternatively, we could choose to camp next to the hot pools at the Mangatainoka campsite. 

Sunday: Walk the 3-4hrs back to the roadend in the morning. If we have time, we can jump in the Mangatutu hot pools again before we leave. Drive back to Wellington in the afternoon, likely arriving home around dinner time!
