Keen on coming along on a beginner friendly tramp? This is one for you!
Im planning a chill overnighter to Kapakapanui hut in the Tararuas. My main goal however is to find a old unsused hut that sits just off the track, Thornhills (Possumers) Hut.
Rough plan is to head off from Hunter carpark at 10-11pm on Saturday the 4th of July. Drive to the Ngatiawa road end and walk roughly 4hours with roughly ~500m elevation over about 5km. Distance, time and elevation is dependent on which way we do the loop, however whatever way we go there will be walking up hill so a decent but not crazy level of fitness is recommended!
That being said it's mostly easy going, and Id love to see some newer club members sign up. It will be a great trip to get into tramping or hone your skills!
For those interested I'm happy to do a cheeky bit of teaching around some basic Tramping and Bushcraft skills from reading maps to taking a bearing and using a compass, taking grid references and possibly some fire lighting!

There are 6 bunks in the hut and 5 spaces in my car. So this trip is limited to 5 people for the moment, if people are desperate to come and we get a second car I may decide to let more people on under agreement that some people may need to tent outside :)
Cost will be calculated soon. Will cover fuel and food and be in the ball park of $15-30?
