What the hell is a Rogaine!?!?!?!?!

Well... I would say it is a thrilling, stimulating and inspiring way to plod around in the bush for a few (many) hours, get lost, get unlost, definitely get lost again, become besties with your team-mates (trauma bonding?), refine your navigating skills, build endurance, get comfortable being uncomfortable, win a trophy!? (probs not lol), and experience beautiful places in a way you never have before... all in the form of a glorified treasure hunt.

The NZ Rogaining Association gives a slightly different and more boring answer to that question but I guess it's helpful or whatever; "Rogaining is a long-distance cross-country navigation and team sport where small groups use a map and compass to find as many checkpoints as possible within a set time limit." 

Rogaines come in all shapes and sizes, from 60 minute to 24 hr events. The event I am interested in is the 24hr NZ ROGAINING CHAMPIONSHIPS taking place on the 21-22nd November around St Arnaud in Nelson Lakes. While the title might sound a bit daunting it's totally chill for this to be your first rogaine if you are interested - the only requirement is that you have a good level of fitness and a positive attitude (walking around for 24hr is obviously tiring but you will most likely surprise yourself with your abilities). Experience with navigation is desireable as we need to have atleast 2 experienced leaders per team for such a long event. Note: A rogaine team typically consists of 2-5 people but 4 is usually the sweet spot.

Please note: We will be at the competition site from the evening of Fri 20th Nov until atleast the afternoon of Sun 22nd Nov. You will need to be available for this entire duration plus travel to and from the south island if need be. This trip will be self-funded by you (event entry cost alone is $175 per person).

P.S.S. The rogaining community is such good vibes and they usually do really yummy catering all day/night long for competitiors, it will be a BLAST!!!!!!
