A Quadrapedal Circuit - Roaring Stag Hut/Cow Saddle/ Cattle Ridge Loop (Not Dundas Loop)

We'll be meeting at Hunter Carpark VUW at 6:30pm on Friday evening and then leaving after minimal faff to drive to the Putara Road end (North-East in Tararua Ranges) which takes about 2 hours. On Friday evening we will walk in tp Roaring Stag Hut which is a 7km/4hr walk starting at at around 300m, going up to 770m and finishing back at around 400m. 

After sleeping in Roaring Stag Hut on Friday night we will walk up the ridge towards Cattle Ridge (highest peaks are around 1300m) and we'll spend Saturday night in Cow Creek Hut. DOC time for Saturday is 7 hours. On Sunday morning we'll walk down the valley via Roaring Stag Hut and drive back to Wellington (DOC time is 9 hours).

Trip cost includes petrol, group dinner for Saturday night and breakfast for Saturday and Sunday. We'll stop for dinner on the way on Friday night (or you could eat beforehand or bring somoething with you) but please also bring lunches and snacks for Saturday and Sunday.

Torches and spare batteries as well as plenty of layers of warm clothing (please don't wear cotton of any type including denim!)
