There isn't an 'organiser' for this trip, and this is probably all the information you'll get, so meet near the Hutt Valley Train platform  at Wellington Railway Station and catch the 9:05 train . If you sign up you should be able to see who else is going so you can find them at the train station.

Catch the 9:05 Hutt Valley Train out to Waterloo Train station ($5).

Then the 9:34 Bus 170 to just passed the 2nd roundabout in Wainuiomata https://www.metlink.org.nz/stop/9906.

The entrance to the track is just along Fraser Street on the left.

Follow the 'Zig Zag Track', 'Rata Ridge Track', 'Main Ridge Track', 'Hawtrey Track', 'Mackenzie Track', to Butterfly Creek,

If wanted a side trip up to the Wainuiomata Road Summit carpark lookout provides nice views of Wellington City and the best Hutt, Lower Hutt.

There are plenty of options to cut the walk short and head down to Eastbourne or any of the Bays where you will be able to catch a bus.

Return to Eastbourne or Days Bay to catch bus 83 or the Days Bay Ferry back to Wellington.

Have a swim/ice cream/pizza at Days Bay before returning to Wellington

Bring jacket, warm clothes, head torch, lunch, snacks, water, bus/train/ferry/ice cream money

https://new.vuwtc.org.nz/gear-list

Cost: $25 should probably cover all public transport.

Highlight colours: Red = From Fraser Street, Blue = From Waiwhetu Station, Purple = Bus from Waterloo Station to Fraser St.

An alternative instead of catching the 170 bus to Wainuiomata is to get off the train at Waiwhetu Station, and walk the shared pathway up Wainuiomata Hill, and then along the Main ridge track to Eastbourne (see blue highlight in maps above). It's easier than it looks, plus you get some nice views of town on the way up.
