Contribute to the preservation of this native ecosystem that lies right in the middle of Wellington Harbour!
We'll catch the 12 noon ferry from Queens Wharf, the man on the island advised that we book our tickets in advance as they are running a reduced capacity in Level 2. Click here to see further info on the ferry, you'll need to email reception@eastbywest.co.nz to book. I'm thinking we catch the 11am ferry back to Queens Wharf on Tuesday, but you're welcome to stay on the island longer!
As for accommodation I said earlier that we'd be camping, but we've been offered Education House to ourselves! We can use the kitchen facilities to make a dinner together. I'll just buy a heap of pasta with sauce and vegetables (50% of us are veggies 😋).
If anyone wants to bring a tent and sleep outside that should be fine. I'm keen to camp but I'm going to judge it on the weather nearer. There are 10 mattresses in the house, so some of us will have to. Please respond if you're happy to bring a tent and sleep outside.
We'll be doing track maintenance, so bring some workwear and expect to get dirty. They should provide the gloves and tools etc.
Things to bring:
- Snacks and a packed lunch.
- A mug and a bowl
- Change of clothes, we might get muddy
- Sleeping bag
- Head torch - preferably with a red filter if you've got one
- Water bottle
- Sun cream
- A warm jacket, for the night time
- This should all fit in a medium size pack
Make sure you don't bring alien flora or fauna with you, I remember they check your belongings when you arrive on the island incase you carry anything that might upset the ecosystem.
