Organiser: Meike Pummer
**postponed because of weather RIP the climbing gods are not working in our favour at the moment - potentially happening next week instead when we wont be camping in the middle of a cyclone**
Kawakawa bay is an awesome campsite and crag on the NW side of Lake Taupō. Great place to get more into outdoor climbing and pretty beginner friendly - come along to a Wednesday indoor climbing night first for a belay course - the climbs grade from 8 to 28 so there is something for everyone as well as swimming, a chill tramp in/out and views for days. (better than pukerua bay 🤯)
Plan would be to car pool up to Taupō on the first sunday of the mid-tri break and camp out for 1/4/7/as many nights as people are keen for.
The walk in/out of the crag is pretty nice/virtually flat but there is the option to bike the track in or get a water taxi around from Kinloch ($$).
Need to bring:
Tents - club can help!
Climbing shoes - club can help!
Harness - club can help!
Rope, quick draws, slings, carabiners, prussicks, atcs, insert climbing jargon here - club can help!
Multi-night camping gear: Sleeping bag/mat, dinners & lots of snacks, (lake water is drinkable), headtorch, stuff to do while not climbing, sunblock/bug spray!, camera, walking clothes/shoes, climbing clothes/shoes, chilling clothes/shoes, tp, will think of more stuff or ask me if your unsure.
Disclaimer p sure theres no reception but tbh that's a plus until someone breaks a leg 👍
