Wellington Weeknight Walkies is a series of social weeknight walks exploring the Wellington region - a combo of easy bushwalks & urban adventuring.
This episode of WWW will be exploring one of the capital's quirkiest southern suburbs, Newtown.
Newtown has a lot to offer (besides being the suburb that I live in). It has the best op shops, the best Countdown, & the best fish & chips - shout out to Leo's Seafood.
It also (more revantly) has many playgrounds with an abundant assortment of equipment.
The plan is to meet at Mt Cook Play Area (sorry techncially not Newtown) & then stroll the streets in search of slides, swings & monkey bars.
A rough idea of the parks/order:
Mt Cook Play Area
along Hall St
Hanson St Play Area
down Stoke St, walkway on Milward St out by Maccas
Newtown Public Play Park
up Constable St for a block
Newtown Community Playground
along Daniell St
Carrara Park Play Area
walkway to Owen St, head south to the zoo/track
Newtown Park Play Area
up the walkway to the skate park, round the back of the zoo
Melrose Park Kids Play Area
Sutherland Cres to Manchester Tce to Truby King Park
Past Carmichael Reservoir/Newtown Lookout down Coromandel St
Vice Regal Park Playground
This trip will also feature many murals to photograph, cats to pat, & dairies to buy ice creams from.
Bring comfy shoes, warm clothes & maybe a snack.
