Organiser: Patrick Hayes

Maybe not an official hut bagging trip anymore, but happening regardless

My final DoC hut in the Tararua Ranges to get to - come celebrate with me :)

This is a Medium-Hard trip - beyond the initial forestry roads there are no tracks. It is extremely hard yakka through thick bush with good navigation skills required, there is a good reason this hut is hardly ever visited or heard of. If you're up for a challange, and have prior experience doing serious tramping (i.e not just Freshers) in New Zealand, put your name down. Have 3 spots not including me or my flatmate

Rough (likely to change) schedule:

Saturday night 6pmish: pick up at Hunter carpark

Saturday night 2 hours later: camp near the start of the track (Scotts Rd, between Shannon and Palmerston North)

Sunday 6am: Pack up camp, start long day trip

Sunday 1-2pm: North Mangahao Biv

Sunday 8pm: back at car

Sunday 10pm Back in town

Bring stuff to camp with and leave in the car (tent, though we might have to share if not much ground space, sleeping bag and mat, dinner, breakfast)

And stuff to bring on the walk - Raincoat, Warm Layers, walking layers, boots or good trail shoes and maybe gaitors, food, water bottle, headtorch

TBD
