Tararura Southern Crossing

Welcome to 2023's attempt at a Tararura Southern Crossing. We will be capitalising on the placement of ANZAC Day (Tuesday the 25) by calling in sick to work on the Monday, effectively giving us a 4 day weekend!

Ideally we will have two groups of eager souls to make this a reality:
Group 1:

• Drive to Otaki Forks
• (Saturday) Walk up up up to Kime Hut for the evening
• (Sunday) Walk along the tops to Alpha hut where we will congregate with group 2 for the night and swap keys
• (Monday) walk down to Cone Hut for one experience of a night
• (Tuesday) walk out to Waiohine Gorge Road end for the final escape

Group 2:

• Drive to Waohine Gorge Road end
• Do the same as group one but in reverse

This will be a byo food and rations trip. The club does have plenty of cookers and pots for people if needed, along with a bunch of other hiking related items.

Maybe we can have a shared desert at Alpha hut? If everyone chucks in $3 ill get some snacks.

Hut fees:
All huts are first in first served, so bring a sleeping mat just in case!

Cone hut is free to use (I wonder why?)

Alpha hut is $5(Blue ticket) per person

and Kime hut is also a $5 Blue ticket per person

Fuel Costs:

Fuel should cost around the 8$ mark each but we will get an accurate measurement down to the millilitre of fuel used at the end of the trip for accurate accounting.
