I've found a great campsite up the higher reaches of the Orongorongo river, so if you're happy to spend a night tenting in very cold temperatures then come along!
There's already two of us heading up in a car, so we've got room for a couple more, or if anyone can bring another car then that opens up more space.
Our plan is to start from the Catchpool carpark, then walk the Orongorongo track, then continuing up the river to Boulder Creek (which will involve a bunch of crossings, so wet boots for sure).
There's a large campsite in the trees near Boulder Creek, which can fit quite a few people and even has a great fire pit.
The walk in is only about 3-4hrs, so we don't need to head out of Wellington super early. We might do some side-trips wandering up the various side creeks of the Orongorongo valley.
This is the camp site we'll be staying at:
I'll add more info here before the weekend, things like food and gear.
But most importantly you will need a tent! And if you need to borrow one from the Vic gear shed we'll need to get that sorted asap.
And warm gear is essential, it's going to be a proper winter's morning up there, so make sure you have enough to keep you warm overnight!
