Title: Kapiti Wellington Hut Warden

Team: Heritage and Visitor Role 

Duration: 3 months fixed term 

Location: Orongorongo Valley, Wellington

 

Dates: December 2023 to February 2024

Salary: $53,684 to $64.578 pro rata (with the starting salary based on relevant skills and experience) plus field food allowances and uniform provided.

 

Do you enjoy working in the outdoors and are you great at interacting with, and enjoy meeting people? Then we have the opportunity for you! 

We are looking for a paid Hut Warden to work in the Orongorongo Valley. You should be reasonably fit as there is lots of walking involved, but you will be rewarded by a great work environment. Remutaka Forest Park will be your home over the summer.  Hut wardens’ quarters are provided at Turere Lodge, Orongorongo Valley.

The role involves providing information to visitors, cleaning and maintenance of huts, and basic maintenance of tracks and structure.  It will involve living and working in the backcountry on a roster system and will involve weekend and public holiday work. 

If you are service-focused, with a mode of transport and preferably some tramping experience this could be the perfect role for you! You will have the ability to work unsupervised, in isolated field situations.  Period of employment is for 3 months from December 2023 to February 2024 however the start date can be earlier than this or later and negotiable.
