I've never actually done a trip in the north-eastern area of the Tararuas, so lets give Cattle Ridge a go!
Cattle Ridge hut is one of your classic smaller Tararua huts (5 bunks) with a great sunrise view, and also on the way there is Roaring Stag hut (much larger, 12 bunks).
The walk to Cattle Ridge hut is about 6-7hrs, meanwhile to Roaring Stag is about 4 hours.
Weather is looking "ok" (could rain, but not heavy, plus light winds and cloud) but if we're lucky could get some fine spells and stunning views.
The drive to Putara road end is about 2.5hrs. We will leave Wellington around 10am.
