You know what sucks? Running on roads. Ask 9 out of 10 physiotherapists how to beat your joints to a pulp and they’ll all agree that running down Everton Terrace is probably the way to go. You know what slaps (and I don’t mean the sound of all too many a road runner’s feet as they try to up their split time on the downhill at the risk of splitting their articular cartilage)? Running on trail – the birds, the bees, a fun game where you try not to slip or be sabotaged by earthen protrusions. Walk up the hills, for reals a legitimate technique. Don’t worry about your time, stop and smell a flower, hug a tree. Be a tramper but just a bit quicker.

Anyway, if you insist on getting double knee replacements in your 30’s here’s a list of Wellington’s 5 steepest streets:

1. Fore St and Winchester St, Kaiwharawhara

2. Knoll St, Island Bay

3. Buller St, Te Aro

4. Jubilee Rd, Khandallah

5. Telford Terrace, Oriental Bay

Otherwise come and join us on a few Monday evening trail runs xx
