Earlier this year, seventeen of Wellington’s finest cooks battled it out to become VUWTC’s first ever MasterChef. Watch it all here: https://youtu.be/fA-kr3fRrWc (subtitles reccomended).

-----------------

Alex, Chris, and I decided to take a slight detour on the way back from Masterchef, via Mt Matthews (a mere 8ish km and 800ish metres of elevation away). We boosted up the hill and made it to the top in great time, but the same can't be said for the walk back. Faff included: lying in a sunny patch in the middle of the track, bagging all the huts on Big Bend, cleaning Waerenga then taking a nap, and many snack breaks. It was well past dark when we got back to the car.

It was a much more achievable walk than I was expecting. It's a long day, but the track is well formed and the uphill slog is only medium painful. Do make sure to keep an eye on the orange markers though - we did not, and ended up scrambling along the top of a cliff. Whoops.
