By Justin Atkinson, 15 August 2024

High on the skyline

Five wizards flew windswept earth

Time and space no more

This walkie across the Skyline walkway between Johnsonville and Karori was going ahead, then cancelled, then un-cancelled, then wishing to be cancelled by Justin because of 60km/h winds, but too late (to Tommy's delight!). We were eco-friendly hikers, being guided solely by moonlight. Well done to newcomers Bella and Chloe, who somehow kept up with crazy Tommy and Chris.

We took 4 hours instead of the scheduled 6. Along the way there were creepy cave weta, Mt Kaukau views, many wind gusts, bouncy bushes perfect for jumping on (and falling through), bushbashing to the outcrop called the Wizard's Hat, killer sheep, hanggliders, Montgomery Avenue Play Area (a below average 4/10), a discussion of the most important VUWTC committee members (soz Nathan!), a dancing gecko, Karori Park Play Area (a great 8/10), an angry bus driver, and Chris pushing Tommy on a spinny chair down Upland Rd.

The day after, Justin messaged Tommy about the near death experience and dramatic Walkie ending they had shared. Tommy said quote "I don't remember any of that. Was I that drunk off half a bottle of wine?"
