If you happen to be a povo student, lacking a car, and feeling like a slog through a creek for about 4-5 hours is a great way to spend a Sunday or Saturday. Then I shall introduce you to the Gollans Stream Daytramp. Hidden away in East Harbour Regional park it offers a very beginner friendly day tramp.
It takes you through a wonderful stream thats both equally clear and cold, then onto some wonderful Beech and Rata forest. It really offers a pleasant escape away from study or work. Just be prepared to get a tad wet.
Alongside all that, you can get to to the trailhead by taking the bus; catch the 83 to Muritai from which ever stop suites you best. Then take it all the way to the end. From there youve arrived at the start of the tramp. Just make sure when you walk out to Days Bay youve left enough time to catch the ferry or the bus back into Wellington.
I do reccomend the ferry - but it can get a bit windy..
